Contemporary artist KYOTARO (Kyotaro Aoki) continues to create works with delicate yet dynamic imagery and a truly unique presence.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

For her upcoming first overseas solo exhibition “Kyotaro Aoki Solo Exhibition \u2014 What Dwells Within (\u5bbf\u756b \/ \u5bbf\u308a\u7d75),”<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

taking place at Whimsy Works in Taipei, Taiwan, <\/span>a special collaboration with Maison MIHARA YASUHIRO has been created.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The collaboration T-shirt will be available from 21st August at two Maison MIHARA YASUHIRO stores in Japan and the official online store.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

After five years since KYOTARO\u2019s solo exhibition held in 2021 at \u201cMusekinin Gallery,\u201d a gallery operated by Maison MIHARA YASUHIRO in Fukuoka,<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

both join again to explore their respective forms of expression beyond conventional boundaries into t<\/span><\/span>he T-shirt.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

KYOTARO\u2019s artwork is printed on a body featuring Maison MIHARA YASUHIRO\u2019s signature faded and distressed finish, <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

resulting in a psychedelic mood with an underlying sense of delicacy.<\/span><\/p>\n

I feel a sense of wonder that, 26 years after the “VILO-VILO” exhibition in 2000, this work is being presented again in this form.<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

At the time I created this piece, I was in a state of \u2018emptiness\u2019\u2014creating simply from a place of \u2018just being.\u2019 <\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

I was able to pour an energy resembling both \u2018screams and laughter\u2019 into the work.<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

I wasn\u2019t concerned with how it would be perceived. I simply wanted to express what I felt, and was able to channel a direct, passionate spirit into the work.<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

It has become a piece that represents the very origin of KYOTARO.<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Looking back after all these years, I have also come to realize that my expression has become somewhat more mellow over time.<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Encountering this work again has a powerful impact, as if reconnecting firmly with the frequency of that time and creating a space to protect that energy.<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

I believe it is a truly remarkable piece.<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

I was told that this work had always been displayed in Mihara\u2019s home. In that sense as well,<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

the choice of this motif and its transformation into this T-shirt collaboration carry a special significance.<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

It would make me happy if the energy of this work could reach those who need it.<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

ABOUT | KYOTARO (Kyotaro Aoki)<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Born in Kyoto in 1978, KYOTARO graduated from the Graphic Design Course at Kyoto Saga University of Arts Junior College.<\/span><\/p>\n

Drawing inspiration from manga and fairy tales, he developed an early fascination with manga, picture-book illustrations, and psychedelic imagery.<\/span><\/p>\n

In 1999, he moved his base of activity to Tokyo.<\/span><\/p>\n

Working across a wide range of disciplines, including drawing, painting, manga, and commissioned works,<\/span><\/p>\n

KYOTARO continues to develop a distinctive visual language rooted in his unique perspective and imagination.<\/span><\/p>\n
